Becel Vegan Margarine

Thank you Becel vegan margarine for providing my favourite vegan product for non-vegans. Why is this product for non-vegans you ask? Let me tell you! Most, if not all, standard margarine is not vegan due to milk products such as whey, casein, and lactose. When a friend wants to bake you a birthday cake or an Aunt wants to make the holiday vegetables vegan for you but are used to using butter or regular margarine, it is so easy to suggest they pick up some Becel vegan. Yes, they can just use a variety of vegetable oils, which are also healthier and less processed, but not everyone is comfortable with that. People like to stay in their comfort zone and Becel vegan margarine makes their comfort zone a little more vegan. While Becel vegan is not healthy and is very processed, it has some pros in convenience and ease of use. Becel vegan spreads and works the same way as regular margarine, so there is no guess work. It also spreads easier than the better tasting Earth Balance. The final bonus is that Becel vegan margarine is also cheaper than other alternatives, which is why when Iā€™m making a recipe that requires a lot of margarine, I often opt for Becel. Convenience and value make Becel vegan worth trying, or suggesting to your non-vegan brethren.

I was wondering what the salt content was like! I just recently tried Earth Balance and it’s way too salty. Good thing I didn’t add any salt to my dish.

I am not sure how true this is, but I read it online that Vegan Becel although Vegan but tests on animals! I find that absurd and will look into it to see if it’s true, but wanted to share this piece of info šŸ™‚

Becel is owned by Unilever which does test on animals, though I do not believe that Vegan Becel itself was tested on animals. Many companies are owned by Unilever, so you may wish to look that up and no longer purchase anything they own. They recently bought Swedish Glace ice-cream in England as well, which is an amazing vegan ice cream brand. Over all, it’s best to avoid Unilever, but you may be surprised by the amount of companies and products they own.

Agreed. I will definitely buy from companies that are vegan and as humane, to animals and humans, as possible. I will not buy Becel and will stay away from Unilever all together. We all need to do our part to stop the inhumane torture and inevitable deaths of all precious animals.

This past Christmas Becel recommended using Original Becel in a variety of Christmas cookies etc.
Can Becel Vegan be used in baking with good results?

Yes! In my experience vegan Becel works the same as other Becel margarines. Just be aware that if a recipe asks for butter, margarine and butter (whether dairy or non-dairy) act slightly different in a recipe. However, if the recipe calls for margarine, vegan Becel should work great! Also pay attention to whether the recipe wants the margin cold, at room temperature, or melted. Happy baking!

Unfortunately their recently newly formulated version does not taste good at all! Really disappointed. Based on the reviews on their own website, others feel the same.

Not me. It tastes way better than Earth Balance to me. I think it’s all a matter of taste buds and preference. So instead of saying it doesn’t taste good, it doesn’t taste good to you. šŸ™‚
